On Thursday last week, 30 top-rated TikTok Influencers gathered together on Zoom to receive a detailed brief from theWhite House representatives about the war in Ukraine and its escalating effects on the US and the world economy. The representatives, National Security Council staffers, and WhiteHouse press secretary Jen Psaki, informed the influencers about our strategic goals as a country and answered questions related to sending necessary help to Ukrainian families.

The government saw it as a valuable opportunity to address and inform the younger population about the war and its effects. The influencers weren’t allowed to record the conversation or share any pictures, but they were allowed to share key information with their followers.

In a recording of the call, the intentions of the White House director of digital strategy Rob Flaherty are quite straightforward: “We recognize this is a critically important avenue in the way the American public is finding out about the latest, so we wanted to make sure you had the latest information from an authoritative source.”
